Acupuncture

Dr. Wheeler's top priorities are the care and comfort of your animal as well as understanding your needs and wants for your pet. Some of you are reaching out to us because you have personally had success with acupuncture. For others of you, you may know nothing about acupuncture but have heard from friends or family that acupuncture is working to treat a wide variety of conditions and would like to give it a try. Our hope is that you will experience an improvement in your pet’s quality of life through our service. The thing that drives Dr. Wheeler's passion for acupuncture is how she has been able to develop a new tool to help pets in a way that compliments traditional veterinary medicine.
Prior to your first visit, you will need to complete our new client forms (pricing is available on the new client forms). More often than not, we are treating chronic or long-standing conditions which means the treatment may also need to be long term. The treatment plan for chronic conditions usually consists of an initial consultation and treatment with an additional 3-5 treatments (4-6 total initially). At that point, we will reassess our progress and determine the path forward. Sometimes this means that we can begin to taper the treatments to become less frequent. Sometimes, this means we do not see the response we are hoping for. In those cases, we must re-assess if acupuncture is the best treatment modality for your family and pet and decide if there is an alternative solution that may work better.
The Initial Acupuncture session on average lasts 1.5 hours. This includes a TCVM (Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine) exam including tongue and pulse and pet personality. All of your pet's previous medical history that is available is reviewed prior to the appointment. During the appointment there is a discussion of findings and recommendations, and a typed summary is emailed after the visit. We are happy to share our findings with your primary care veterinarian if desired. Our follow up acupuncture treatments last 45-60 minutes. Once the initial acupuncture session has been completed, bundled sessions may be purchased that offer bundle discounts for both follow up treatments and house calls.
Our house call fee is what brings our practice to your doorstep and is in addition to services performed. There is no additional charge per additional pet(s) seen at the same location. We provide service to Sanford NC, Southern Pines NC, as well as parts of Aberdeen, Fayetteville and Pinehurst NC.

Veterinary Medical Manipulation

Veterinary Medical Manipulation is similar to Chiropractic care in humans. It uses a technique called motion palpation to identify restrictions in your pet and uses a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust to directly affect the joint and the mechanoreceptors around the joint. Veterinary medical manipulation can be used to treat many common conditions in pets including helping to manage pain, lameness, osteoarthritis, spondylosis and helping to maintain optimal athletic performance in working dogs.
Our Veterinary Medical Manipulation service includes evaluation of pertinent history, any available radiographs (x-rays), both a static and dynamic examination of your pet and manipulations of the restrictions that are found during the exam.
Our house call fee is what brings our practice to your doorstep. It is not included in the Veterinary Medical Manipulation Exam and treatment. It is in addition to the above services. There is no additional charge per additional pet(s) seen at the same location. We provide service to Sanford NC, Southern Pines NC, as well as parts of Aberdeen, Fayetteville and Pinehurst NC.
